Albury’s modern courthouse is set to receive its largest ever upgrade, delivering an additional multipurpose courtroom to the Olive Street complex.
Member for Albury Justin Clancy said the multi-million dollar project will be a major boost for the community and comes on top of more than $870,000 of recent improvements to the courthouse.
“The expansion will increase the number of courtrooms in the Olive Street complex from two to three and will support growing demand at one of the busiest courthouses in inland NSW,” Mr Clancy said.
The project follows the recent completion of a $514,000 upgrade of the Olive Street building, carried out as part of the NSW Government’s $148 million package to appoint seven extra District Court judges. Judge Sean Grant began sitting in Albury and Griffith in February.
Mr Speakman today inspected the improvements during a visit to Albury Courthouse.
“The new jury courtyard is a unique feature of the courthouse, giving jurors access to a secure outside area within the complex,” Mr Speakman said.
“Among other improvements are upgrades to CCTV and the installation of security access systems to ensure the safety of court users.”
Albury’s heritage courthouse on Dean Street has also been given a spruce up this year, as part of the NSW Government’s $9 million COVID Stimulus program to boost economies in regional areas.
The iconic building received $366,000 in general maintenance and improvements, including an air conditioning upgrade and painting of the internal and external façade.
“This beautiful building built in 1860 is part of a conservation area in Albury and it’s wonderful to see it looking its best once again,” Mr Speakman said.
