Joel Fitzgibbon a strong voice for mining and energy workers – Labor must find another
Joel Fitzgibbon has been a great supporter of the resources industry and Labor must find a new shadow resources minister who understands and values the sector and its workers, the Miners’ Union said today.
“Joel has been a great advocate for mining and energy workers and our union is deeply appreciative of his work and commitment,” said CFMEU Northern Mining and NSW Energy President Peter Jordan.
“As a Hunter Valley local, Joel understands the value that the coal mining and coal power industries deliver to local regions like ours, through providing well-paid, long-term jobs and economic activity.
“Mining has sustained families in the Hunter Valley and Australia’s diverse mining regions for generations and these communities want to feel that politicians have their back. Joel has always had our back.
“As Labor’s resources spokesman, he has worked hard to promote understanding about the mining and energy industries among the broader community.
“He’s stepped up to the challenge of reversing the backlash against Labor in coal regions at the last federal election and made good progress.
“It’s important that Labor continues to connect with the men and women who work in our valuable resources industries; and finds someone for the role who can advocate just as fiercely.
“We know that Joel will continue standing up for mining and energy workers as Member for Hunter and we look forward to working with him in that capacity.”
