Communities across Tasmania are being encouraged to complete registrations for the Tasmania Fire Service’s Community Bushfire-Ready Challenge which launchesthis Friday.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said that Tasmania is one of the most bushfire prone areas in the world, with more than 90 per cent of the state classified as bushfire-prone, and the challenge helps all Tasmanians to be bushfire ready.
“The Community Bushfire-Ready Challenge is a 6-week immersive onlineexperience that kicks off on Friday, 1 September,” Minister Ellis said.
“Participants can register as a family or household to receive weekly challenges to understand their bushfire risk, create a bushfire plan, and prepare their properties ahead of summer.
“The Tasmania Fire Service uses a suite of integrated strategies to reduce bushfire risk, including community-focused programs that ensure we all play our part. Preparing for bushfires is everyone’s responsibility.
“The Community Bushfire-Ready Challenge will extend the opportunities for all members of the community, state-wide, to better prepare for bushfires this season, and there is also the chance to win prizes as challenges are completed,” Minister Ellis said.
