Joint statement – Albanese Government funds $6.3 million for social housing boost in Perth’s southern suburbs

The continued partnership between the Albanese Labor Government and the Cook Labor Government is delivering another 12 new social homes in the southern Perth suburb of Hamilton Hill, close to the established amenity of the Fremantle city centre.

The 12 one and two-bedroom homes, delivered by DevelopmentWA, as part of the OneOneFive redevelopment, for the Department of Communities, will provide new homes for people on the public housing waitlist, giving an immediate boost to Western Australia’s social housing stock.

The $6.3 million project is funded through the Albanese Labor Government’s Social Housing Accelerator.Across the State, the Albanese Government is working in lockstep with the Cook Government to ensure more Western Australians have a safe and affordable place to call home.

The 12 new social homes have been built by Dale Alcock ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s and constructed injust nine months from the concrete slab pour. The homes have been constructed through offsite prefabricated timber framed panels brought together on site – part of the Cook Government’s reforms to accelerate social housing builds.

The Federal Government’s $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator Fund aims to build around 4,000 homes for vulnerable Australians, with each state and territory receiving a share.

Western Australia’s share – totalling $209.2 million – will deliver more than 260 social homes and ensure refurbishments can be undertaken to 330 existing social homes across the State.

This $209.2 million contribution to WA complements the Cook Labor Government’s record $3.2 billion investment into housing and homelessness measures – which includes the delivery of nearly 5,000 social homes, and the maintenance and refurbishment of many thousands more.
