Joint statement – World’s top content creators to capture beauty of Kimberley as GoPro summit kicks off

Some of the world’s best content creators have arrived in Australia to showcase the unique and spectacular Kimberley region to their millions of followers as they take part in the annual GoPro Creator Summit.

Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham, together with Western Australia’s Minister for Tourism, Paul Papalia, today extended a warm welcome to more than 40 talented content creators and adventure athletes who have descended on the region to take part in the Summit which kicked off this week.

“This is the first time that the GoPro Creator Summit has come to Australia, providing an exciting opportunity for Australia’s Kimberley region, which is renowned for its spectacular beauty and breathtaking tourism offerings, to be showcased on the world stage,” Minister Birmingham said.

“Tourism is vital to many regional economies around Australia, and that’s why the Morrison Government is backing events like this, to ensure that Australia remains top of mind for international travellers who spend more and disperse beyond the gateways.

“I hope that those attending the Summit immerse themselves in the charm and beauty of Australia, sharing incredible experiences to motivate their more than 28 million of followers around the world.”

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming GoPro and its content creators to Western Australia to capture the Kimberley’s stunning bright colours, raw beauty and jaw-dropping adventure attractions,” Minister Papalia said.

“Getting up close to marine wildlife in its natural environment, flying over Australia’s only horizontal falls, learning about the Aboriginal history of the region – these amazing Kimberley experiences will be filtering into millions of people’s social feeds worldwide as a result of the summit.

“It’s going to ignite people’s wanderlust and have them tagging friends and family to encourage them to put WA on the top of their trip list.”

Nearly 40 creators with a combined social reach of more than 28 million will participate in the four-day event, which will see them take part in a series of daily training sessions at Cable Beach, Broome, before getting the chance to experience some of the region’s best tourism offerings.

Activities include flying in a seaplane over the breathtaking Horizontal Falls; touring Kooljaman at Cape Leveque, run by the Indigenous Bardi Jawi Communities; hitching a ride on a camel along serene Cable Beach; spotting dolphins and whales and kayaking among turtles; touring Broome via Australia’s only public hovercraft tour; and harvesting pearls at Willie Creek.

The event, which is being delivered by Tourism Australia and Tourism Western Australia in partnership with GoPro, is expected to generate more than 250 pieces of content that will be utilised and shared across all partner channels.
