Jondaryan – Mt Tyson Road upgrade to start in September

Work to upgrade a section of Jondaryan – Mt Tyson Road to improve safety and cater for increased traffic volumes and loadings will start in September.

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Infrastructure Committee Cr Carol Taylor said Council would reconstruct a 2.2-kilometre section of the road starting at Borges Bridge, south of Grants Road, to near Grundy Road.

“The road is an important link in the Jondaryan district, servicing properties and rural businesses, and connecting the Warrego Highway to Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road and on to Mt Tyson,” Cr Taylor said.

“The project will involve reconstructing and widening the existing road to a seven-metre seal on an eight-metre formation to cater for increasing traffic volumes and loadings. The existing drainage will remain substantially unaltered.”

Cr Taylor said the existing crest on the southern approach to Borges Bridge would be lowered substantially to improve sight distance and safety for all road users.

“Construction is expected to be completed prior to Christmas 2019, weather permitting, and Council will seek to minimise any impacts on the winter harvest,” she said.

“Following consultation with property owners, residents and the wider community, and factoring in time, cost and safety, Council has decided the best option is to close the road for the duration of the roadworks construction. Council would like to thank all the stakeholders for their feedback.

“The road will be closed from Grants Road to West Prairie Road, with traffic to be detoured via West Prairie Road and Jondaryan – Evanslea Road and the Warrego Highway. However, local access will be maintained.

“Signage will be in place to assist road users and Council urged road users to obey all traffic signage for their own safety and the safety of road construction workers.”

Council will seek to minimise construction impacts and thanks the community for their patience and co-operation during these works.
