A gentle-natured rescue koala by the name of Jordan is on loan to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary for the next 12 months to help boost his socialisation skills and fulfill his natural breeding behaviour.
Jordan, a five-year-old male, was an orphaned koala and hand-raised by a carer.
Jordan’s chances of survival were considered too low to justify releasing him into the wild which is why he has become an ambassador for his species at the Daisy Hill Koala Centre.
Recently, Jordan has been displaying signs of his natural urge to breed, which includes bull roaring, scent marking his enclosure, and searching for ways to go looking for females.
Jordan (pictured) has been showing off his scent gland on his chest, a male characteristic and one of the signs he wants to breed.
As a result, Jordan was deemed the ideal candidate to spend some quality time at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to meet other females as his wild genetics are valuable for their gene pool.
The plan is to introduce Jordan to some of the female population to improve his socialisation skills and hopefully sire some joeys.
So far Jordan has mated with three female koalas, however, we are yet to see any joeys in the pouches of the females.
Jordan has a gentle nature who can often be found curling up with a nice piece of gum leaf.
Don’t be fooled by his mellow disposition as Jordan has an adventurous side and can often be seen climbing to the top of his tree to bask in the sunshine and fresh air.
Once Jordan’s time at Currumbin comes to a close, he will return to his home at the Daisy Hill Koala Centre and continue his role as an ambassador.
