Two CFA teams of Juniors will compete in this year’s Australian Fire Cadet Championships (AFCC) in Arcadia, NSW during the September/October school holidays.
The biennial two-day championships put juniors through their paces against simulated fires and equipment failures, alongside endurance activities such as canoeing, high ropes and raft-building.
The event is open to junior members of emergency services agencies from across Australia, providing them with the opportunity to build their firefighting, teamwork and leadership skills, as well as socialise and exchange ideas.
The championships also promote the importance of junior members to volunteer organisations. CFA has competed at the event since its inception in 2007.
“This year we have two teams of six Junior members and four Junior leaders from across the state competing, accompanied by a CFA staff member,” Volunteer Programs Coordinator (Youth) Nathan Linton said.
“The event is a great opportunity for our Junior members to meet Juniors from other brigades in Victoria as well as across Australia, while learning valuable skills in leadership and working as a team.
“Events like this can help young people form bonds and friendships for life, and also show what amazing young people we have as a part of the CFA.”
The teams will compete from 30 September to 3 October.
