Bushfire warning level: ADVICE
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation are managing a bushfire on K’gari (Fraser Island).
You need to keep up to date and decide what actions you will take if the situation changes.
This warning includes Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village and the Oakes on K’gari (Fraser Island).
Currently as at 6:30pm Tuesday 8 December a bushfire is burning in several locations on K’gari (Fraser Island).
The fire on the western side of the island is burning in the vicinity of Dundonga Fire Break, east of Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village, through to Cornwells Road in the south. This area has been heavily water bombed today, limiting fire spread and intensity. The Oakes area on the eastern side of the island has also been extensively patrolled and has very limited fire activity.
People on K’gari (Fraser Island) should stay informed as the fire continues to burn in multiple areas.
Smoke will affect visibility and air quality on K’gari (Fraser Island) and adjacent mainland areas.
QFES and QPWS in conjunction with the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation are working to limit the spread of the fire and minimise environmental and cultural impacts.
Travel to the island remains restricted to local residents, essential service providers and emergency services only.
Residents, campers and visitors already on the island should limit their movements to within close proximity of where they are staying and avoid travelling on the inland tracks and roads.
For a full list of track closures and further information regarding travel restrictions and permit conditions go to www.parks.des.qld.gov.au.
Properties are not under direct threat at this time. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe you or your property is under threat.
