A youth precinct in Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a step closer to reality today with the McGowan Government’s election commitment reaching its first major milestone.
The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Precinct Project will transform the Lord Forrest Precinct (refurbished Lord Forrest Olympic Pool site) and Kingsbury Park into a purpose-built, unified youth precinct.
The McGowan Government committed $2.1 million towards the project at the 2021 State election and today the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has released a Request for Quote to develop the master concept plan for the precinct.
The completed project will deliver upgrades to existing park and youth infrastructure and the inclusion of new engaging elements, which will unify the park into a youth-focused community space.
The Masterplan Request for Quote is due by Friday December 31, 2021.
The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council will play an integral role in developing the project, ensuring that it delivers direct benefits for the youth of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“The McGowan Government is committed to delivering this priority project to provide families and young people with a range of activity options and hangout spaces.
“The Youth Precinct will provide a safe and attractive place for youth to congregate, while being supported by the City’s Youth Team and other service providers.
“The project will unify the park to make the precinct the perfect place for community events, youth workshops and family gatherings. It is an exciting project for Kalgoorlie-Boulder and very much supported by community.”
As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:
“It is very clear that the youth of Kalgoorlie-Boulder have outgrown what is currently available to them and that there is a need, and has been for some time now, for an improved space that will better service the needs of the community.
“During the past two years, I have talked to a lot of the youth in our community. It was by talking to them that I realised we need to make this commitment and I am convinced this new space will create an environment that will promote positive experiences and social outcomes for our kids.
“I know that local families will be delighted to hear that a friendly, welcoming space for young people is on its way. I know I am, and I cannot wait to see the Masterplan very soon.”
