Kane Constructions wins contract for new health centre at Simpson Barracks

Australian Defence Force members will benefit from a new health centre to be built at Simpson Barracks, Watsonia, as part of a $212.5 million national investment in defence health facilities.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Melissa Price MP, today announced Kane Constructions Pty Ltd had secured the $15.7 million contract with Defence and said work would get underway within weeks.

“The construction of the new health care facility will ensure the Australian Defence Force is able to provide quality health services for its personnel,” Minister Price said.

“The facility will house primary care including mental health and rehabilitation, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dental, general support, external works, and Joint Health Unit Headquarters.”

Under the Morrison Government’s Defence Policy for Industry Participation, Kane Constructions will maximise opportunities for local businesses to supply goods or services for the work at Simpson Barracks.

“Kane Constructions has committed to using local businesses for at least 90 per cent of its sub-contract work, which is great news for the local community,” Minister Price said.

Construction of the new health care facilities at Simpson Barracks is scheduled to commence in late 2019 with completion anticipated by late 2020.
