Police advise that Multidisciplinary Rapid Damage Assessment Team (MRDAT) personnel have been on Kangaroo Island since midday yesterday (Friday 10 January) – focused on trying to gauge the extent of the overall damage caused by the fires.
It is important to note that these teams can only access locations once they are declared safe, so it can take some time until a full assessment can be undertaken. Teams worked through to near sunset last night and were back out on the ground around sunrise this morning. This has also included aerial observations which has confirmed that some areas of concern have not been damaged as much as originally believed. The MRDAT will be making assessments over the weekend and will provide a more detailed and updated report later on Monday.
