Former Queensland Government Minister Kate Jones has been appointed to the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC).
The ARLC accepted a unanimous recommendation from the Nomination Committee to appoint Ms Jones to fill a casual vacancy on the Commission.
Ms Jones joins the Commission after a successful career in the Queensland Government where she most recently served as Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development, Minister for the Commonwealth Games and Minister for State Development. She retired from politics at last month’s election.
The Commission has also agreed to reappoint Chairman Peter V’landys AM and Professor Megan Davis for a further term on the Commission.
Mr V’landys said that “Ms Jones is an impressive individual who has in depth knowledge of the most important aspects of the game for the sport to grow and prosper.”
“Kate has a real passion for rugby league and growing grassroots participation is a key area we will be calling upon as she is well experienced and skilled in that area,” he said.
Ms Jones’ knowledge of government and major events would also be a major asset to the Commission.
Mr V’landys also welcomed the reappointment of Professor Megan Davis.
“The Professor is one of the most passionate and conscientious Board members I have ever worked with,” he said.
“Her contribution is immense, and the game is fortunate to have people of her calibre.
“The Board now has a good spread of skills and each one will be needed to face the many challenges ahead.”
