A park featuring Council’s first double climbing cube was officially opened in Beaconsfield on the weekend.
Kath Roberts Reserve playground has been upgraded and now features brand new play spaces as well as shelters, seating, landscaping and connecting concrete pathways.
The playground also featured the double climbing cube with a basket swing in the centre. The colourful playground also showcases a monkey bar and turn-over bar unit.
The Victoria Government committed $79,000 towards the project as part of the Parks Revitalisation Grants Program.
The Australian Government contributed $81,000 as part of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
Cardinia Shire Council contributed $39,000.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Brett Owen attended the official opening of the park on Saturday with Tien Kieu MP, Member for South Eastern Metropolitan and Federal Member for La Trobe Jason Wood MP.
A tree was also planted in commemoration of Kath Roberts by her grandchildren Elizabeth and Andrew, and Mayor Owen.
“This is exciting to see this playground upgrade complete and ready to be enjoyed by our community,” Cr Owen said,
“It has play areas for children of all ages and features a slide, money cars, climbing frames and swings.”
Tien Kieu MP, Member for South Eastern Metropolitan said “we are excited to welcome you to this new park to enjoy with your friends, family and children. The park is a wonderful addition to the local community and provides a lively and open space for all to enjoy.”
Federal Member for La Trobe Jason Wood MP said “it is wonderful to see these upgrades finally completed, particularly as we move towards the summer holidays. Throughout La Trobe I have been proud to have secured funding for playground upgrades and sporting clubs, which ensure local kids get outdoors and enjoy our wonderful open spaces”
Kath Roberts Reserve was named after Kath Roberts whose family had the Post Office and store in 1930’s and 40’s and lived in a house on the corner of Woods Street and Beaconsfield Avenue.
