Among the thousands of personnel involved with Exercise Pitch Black 24 are two members from the Royal Brunei Air Force who are observing the flying operations with a keen eye.
For the first time, the Royal Brunei Air Force was embedded into Pitch Black operations to observe the planning and execution of the exercise, particularly the tactical airlift capabilities.
Major (U) Mohamad Azmi Afflon said was very eye-opening to see how all the different elements were incorporated into an exercise like Pitch Black.
“Seeing how each nation brings their subject-matter expertise to operate together in a fighter-centric environment has been a very interesting observation,” Major (U) Azmi said.
“The personnel here have been very keen to share their experience on all the different platforms present, so coming from a tactical airlift background, we have learned a lot of lessons.”
Major (U) Azmi said he was looking forward to potentially bringing over the Royal Brunei Air Force assets to the next Pitch Black.
“We really appreciate the opportunity to have been invited, and are already thinking how we can support Pitch Black 26 with our tactical airlift capabilities,” he said.
“It’s these types of exercises that build strong ties between air forces and improve our ability to work together as one.”
