Under a Matt Guy Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government, Dandenong Creek and Blind Creek will be supported with a $200,000 grant for preservation and environmental works.
The funding will be split between the Friends of Koolunga Reserve, the Friends of Blind Creek Billabong and the Friends of Dandenong Creek to fund projects identified by the three Friends groups to support the environmental works.
Works will be delivered in consultation with the relevant government agencies to secure ongoing preservation of Knox’s natural environmental assets.
Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change, James Newbury, said it was important to look at ways to keep the state’s parklands clean.
“Knox’s creeks are home to many native animals and plants and it’s important to look at everything we can do to further maintain biodiversity in our local environment.”
Member for Ferntree Gully and Liberal Candidate for Bayswater, Nick Wakeling, said the announcement comes after consultation with the groups.
“These important creeks are the green spines running through our suburbs and town centres, and this announcement will directly support those community groups that dedicate their time and efforts in preserving them.”
“The funding will directly support revegetation and environmental preservation efforts to ensure these environments remain healthy.”
Liberal Candidate for Ringwood, Cynthia Watson, said it was important for the Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s to look at real solutions to protect our waterways.
“These waterways are not only community greenspaces, but critical biodiverse ecosystems, home to dozens of animals and insects. We are committed to preserving these crucial habitats.”
