Keeping Sunbury West on move

Hume residents can now have their say on how roads could be made safer for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists by taking part in a traffic study for the Sunbury West area.

The Sunbury West area is bounded by the Calder Freeway, Gap Road, Horne Street, Riddell Road, Dalrymple Road and Deverall Road.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said Council is seeking a comprehensive picture of any delays, traffic concerns and overall accessibility issues in the Sunbury West area.

“This is a chance for people to share their thoughts on traffic matters including safety issues, speeding hot spots and congestion,” Cr Moore.

“Parking is also a key consideration of the study, with feedback invited about parking around schools, overall parking congestion and any safety concerns.

“Other road users are an important part of Council’s approach to local traffic management and cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to share their experiences in relation to access, connectivity, cycling lanes and paths, footpaths and shared paths in the Sunbury West area.

“Council’s online interactive mapping tool is the preferred way for the community to share their feedback because the tool provides additional information including traffic counts and allows people to read comments and suggestions from others plus take part in the community discussion.”

The Sunbury West Local Area Traffic Management Study process is made up of three steps, community consultation, followed by investigations and preparation of a draft plan to address identified issues and finally, sharing the draft plan with the local community for feedback.

Cr Moore said funding of up to $200,000 has been proposed in the 2020/21 Council budget to commence implementation. Projects that are beyond the scope of the initial funding will be considered under Council’s Capital Works Program for funding in the future.
