The Territory Labor Government is supporting Territorians with the cost of living by minimising the increase to vehicle registration to around 1 per cent.
Being a Government owned insurance provider, the NT Motor Accidents Compensation Commission (MACC), who runs the MACC scheme, provides Territorians with road safety insurance.
Vehicle registrations from July, will increase by less than $10, on average. For example, the cost of registration for a small car will increase by just 0.9% or $7, and the cost of registration for utes will increase by just 1.1% or $9. This will save Territorians about $30 on the costs of running the family car.
This small increase – much lower than the inflation rate – has been possible by freezing the MACC component included in the cost of registration. This will come into effect in July and remain through the 2024-25 financial year.
With indexation for the MACC on hold, vehicles, taxis, motorcycles and tour buses with nine or less seats will not pay extra in the 2024-2025 financial year for their MACC contribution.
Only a Territory Labor Government will ensure that the NT Motor Accidents Compensation Commission – which provides critical insurance products – will remain owned by all Territorians.
The Territory Labor Government provides more than $200 million of savings relief for Territorians and families for their power, water and sewerage bills, back to school, sports and childcare costs, along with financial assistance for first homebuyers and small business owners.
