Whether you are two or fifty-two, Horizon has kids and families covered in 2019.
From circus acts to rock shows and nature playgroups to kite making, there are plenty of activities for the young and young at heart to enjoy right across the Sunshine Coast.
Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the festival was designed to include people of all ages and to experience art of many different kinds.
“It’s great to see so many children and young people getting involved in art and creativity, whether it be music and theatre, or getting hands-on through arts and crafts,” Cr Baberowski said.
“There are many opportunities in the Horizon program for families to join in and enjoy a great day out together and put their own creativity to work.”
Young ones will enjoy becoming Little Wildlings with nature playgrounds, cubby and raft building. They can also take over Festival Central each weekend at Horizon Kids and join in clay play, music making, box city construction, nature crowns and family dance parties.
Head to the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden for some Kite Making with artist Lincoln Austin or try making your own TOY, in a special gender-neutral workshop that allows children to build alternative toys of their dreams.
For a bit of theatre, Loose Ends at Venue 114 will take you on a journey to an eccentric place where gadgets are poetic, puppets naughty, machines untamed and circus tricks pop up when you’re least expecting it.
Speaking of circus tricks, Flipside Circus will bring 12 of Queensland’s youngest circus stars to Harmony on the closing weekend with their show Revolve. See experienced artists and a live DJ create a show that’s bursting at the seams with energy and fun.
Older kids and teens, get down to Alex Heads skate park and join in Snake Sessions with Branch Nebula’s team of professional skaters, BMX riders, dancers and parkourists. Learn new moves and tricks and build up for a spectacular improvised performance on August 31.
An event especially curated for teenagers (15 years and over), head to The Events Centre for POINT, the ultimate festival party featuring multi-art projections, installations and some of the country’s most exciting emerging and established music acts including Hilltop Hoods collaborator and inspirational Melbourne artist .
Also at The Events Centre, music lovers can see X Factor Australia winner Isaiah Firebrace with his four-piece band in his new concert spectacular featuring all his hit songs, originals and Eurovision entry.
Throughout the 10-day festival there are lots of events the whole family can enjoy together, from the awesome Eumundi School of Rock performance to Inventing Tomorrow, a documentary film about passionate teenage innovators from around the globe who are creating cutting-edge solutions to confront the world’s environmental threats.
Festival Central in the new Maroochydore City Centre is a great place to take the whole family for free activities on the weekend such as the incredible aerial theatre performance Mountain, and great local music at Live and Local Sundays.
