Council’s biggest animal lovers can’t wait to work at our city’s next major event: Pet Expo at Kingston Heath Reserve, Saturday 30 March, 10am–3pm.
This event will be run by council staff who between them have: two greyhounds, a German Shepherd, a Dachshund, two Maltese Cross Shih Tzus, a Samoyed, Staffy, Cavoodle and two cats.
“We absolutely love working at this event. We’re too busy working to bring along our beloved pets, but we have so much fun meeting pets and owners from across the city – and south east Melbourne,” said Animal Management officer Karen Crowther.
The team will be joined by self-professed dog lover, Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley who will be bringing along her three-year-old poodle-cross, Banjo. “Pet Expo is a fun, and cheap, day out for the whole family where animals get to take centre stage,” said Cr Oxley.
“With obstacle courses, demonstrations pet-look-alike competitions and a petting zoo, Kingston’s Pet Expo is a terrific way to promote responsible pet ownership and to celebrate our love for animals and pets within the community,” Cr Oxley said.
“Animal enthusiasts, pet owners and their four-legged friends are all invited to Kingston Council’s annual
Pet Expo at Kingston Heath Reserve in Cheltenham, just across from the DFO.”
The Pet Expo features:
• activities including pony rides, face painting and a giant inflatable slide
• Genuine Pet Products Puppy Café’, a human café and dog chill-out zone
• demonstrations from Guide Dogs Victoria, the Frankston Fly Ball Competition and more
• an animal petting zoo (entry by donation to Guide Dogs Victoria)
• Informative talks from Wildlife Exposure and Guide Dogs Victoria
• happiest dog, best dog trick and ‘owner-dog best look-alike’ competitions for the dogs
• photographic competitions of the prettiest and grumpiest cat and ‘owner-pet-best look-alike’
• show-bags for dogs and cats, with leads, toys and treats
• Register new pets within Kingston, if relevant paperwork is supplied, to go in the chance to win an iPad
• community sausage sizzle & a range of food and beverage vendors
Please note all dogs must be on a leash at all times and cats in a secure cage.
Pet registration is compulsory and Council staff will be on hand to help make registering your pet
quick and easy. “Make sure you bring along your de-sexing and micro-chipping paperwork in your name and our officers will take care of the rest,” Cr Oxley said.
