Kinross College expansion to offer seamless secondary education

  • Kinross College to provide students with seamless Year 7 to 12 education
  • Expanded senior secondary program to include specialist programs aimed at creating meaningful pathways to employment, tertiary education and training

Kinross College will provide access to a seamless education for students from Year 7 to 12, with the school’s secondary education program set to be expanded.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced that Kinross College, which currently accommodates students in Years 7 to 10, will increase enrolments to include Year 11 students from 2024 and Year 12 students from 2025.

Kinross College will work collaboratively with neighbouring schools, including Mindarie Senior College and Clarkson Community High School, to develop a complementary senior education program, including specialist courses developed in partnership with other education providers.

The expanded program is anticipated to include a limited Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) program, Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses and general courses that meet the particular needs of Kinross College students.

There will be no change to the current arrangements at Clarkson Community High School or Mindarie Senior College.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“This expansion will ensure that Kinross College students have the opportunity to remain at the school for their entire secondary education with a quality secondary education program.

“We have listened to the school and its wider community, and are committed to providing local students with the choice of a seamless Year 7 to 12 education experience in a single school environment.

“This will provide greater continuity and consistency for students, while also allowing for the introduction of additional specialist programs that create meaningful pathways to employment, tertiary education and training.”

As stated by Burns Beach MLA Mark Folkard:

“This is fantastic news for local families, whose children will be able to access a quality secondary education close to home and benefit from remaining part of Kinross College from Year 7 until their final year of schooling.

“Local students deserve high-quality learning opportunities close to home, and this expansion will make sure they get the best possible education.

“I am pleased to have been able to work with the local school community to achieve this outcome.”
