A learner-driver has been issued fines of $4324 and his licence suspended after he was detected allegedly driving at more than twice the speed limit before crashing into a house at Regents Park earlier today.
Officers attached to Auburn Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties on Nottinghill Road about 5.10pm (Monday 18 November 2024), when they detected an SUV allegedly being driven at 107km/h in a signposted 50km/h zone.
Police turned around to follow the vehicle but found the driver had left the road, crashed through a fence and into the garage of a home only metres away.
The driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and subjected to roadside breath and drug tests, both of which were negative.
The man was then issued with fines totalling for the offences of learner-driver estimated speed limit above 45km/h, leaner driver not accompanied, and not display L-plates.
The fines total $4324 and 8 points. His permit was suspended for 6 months.
Neither the driver or the 86-year-old woman who lived in the home were injured; however, the crash caused substantial structural damage to the garage and front right corner of the building.
