For the third consecutive year, La Trobe University has been recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality by the .
The citation is designed to encourage, recognise and promote active commitments to achieving gender equality in Australian workplaces.
It takes into account an organisation’s efforts to support gender equity in leadership, learning and development, gender remuneration gaps, flexible working and other initiatives to support family responsibilities, preventing sex-based harassment and discrimination, and targets for improving gender equality outcomes.
La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Dewar, said the University recognises gender equality as a key factor to the organisation’s success.
“I am proud that we have once again been acknowledged for our commitment to gender equality,” Professor Dewar said.
“I am personally committed to gender equity and in addition to promoting and supporting programs at La Trobe I am a gender pay equity ambassador with WGEA, a member of the Male Champions of Change and Chair of that group’s Women’s Economic Security Committee.
“There is still more work to do to ensure we remain an employer of choice for women and gender diverse staff, and I am encouraging everyone at the University to help put in place actions that will make the University a truly inclusive community.”
La Trobe’s mission, planned actions and indicators of success are set out in the La Trobe University 2018-2022 Gender Equality Blueprint, which includes its commitment to achieve bronze medal accreditation under the SAGE Athena Swan program.
The University is part of a broader movement to address gender-based disparity, with La Trobe being one of 140 Australian organisations to receive a citation this year – an increase of 20 organisations compared to last year.
