Labor Abandons Regional Health Services

The Labor Government today rejected the opportunity to provide relief and certainty for GP clinics across NSW.

Shadow Treasurer Damien Tudehope said that Labor combined with members of the Greens and the crossbench to vote down the Opposition’s plan to give medical service providers a reprieve from crippling retrospective payroll tax bills.

Following the announcement of the Opposition’s plan, the Minns Labor Government moved a hastily-drafted, error-ridden amendment which provides no relief to health services across the State.

“Labor has provided a band-aid solution to an open wound,” Mr Tudehope said.

“The Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s are standing up for GP clinics and medical service providers, particularly in regional NSW,” Mr Tudehope.

“GPs have been abandoned by this Government and will still be subject to excessive retrospective payroll tax liabilities.”

The Shadow Treasurer also accused the Minister for Finance of being unresponsive to this issue and only taking action after the Opposition raised the matter.

“The Minister is clearly asleep at the wheel, otherwise we would have seen a comprehensive plan put forward to the Parliament,” Mr Tudehope said.

“This is yet another example of a government that is just making it up as it goes along.”
