Victorians will finally get answers on the future of a second injecting room, with the Allan Labor Government now forced to release details within the next fortnight.
A motion passed in the Legislative Council this morning, requiring the Government to table the results of Ken Lay’s report into a second injecting room by March 6.
The report was received by Labor on June 1, but it has refused to release the findings, adding to fear and uncertainty.
The secrecy has deeply affected residents and businesses near mooted sites in Melbourne’s CBD in Bourke St and near the Degraves St café precinct.
Labor has continually refused to rule out a second injecting room in Melbourne’s CBD.
Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Emma Kealy, has consistently called for the urgent release of the report.
“For years Labor has kept its plans for a second injection room a secret. Finally, Victorians will find out if Labor intends on bringing the issues that have plagued the North Richmond injecting room to the doorstep of CBD businesses and residents.
“Labor can’t manage the mental health system and Victorians are paying the price.”
