Labor will support Penrith commuters and business by investing $10 million to deliver a free new multi-storey car park and expand parking across the Penrith CBD.
Labor’s $10 million funding package will support Penrith Council to expand the planned Soper Place car park, and help expand parking in the CBD.
Labor Candidate for Penrith, Karen McKeown said ‘that because of Stuart Ayres and the Liberals rampant overdevelopment agenda, existing car parking in Penrith is always full, with commuters forced to park on a vacant lot opposite the station.
“The Liberals have been flogging off our community to developers for eight years now. It feels like everything is going up around here except for parking.”
“It’s no wonder that local car parking is chock-a-bloc as early as 6am most mornings and that our trains are so packed.”
“People shouldn’t be forced to leave home before the sun is up just to find a parking spot and get to work on time.”
Under Labor, this new car park will be free for commuters to make the train network more accessible to Western Sydney residents.
The lack of parking also means that drivers aren’t stopping at local shops as much anymore, and local business is suffering as a result.
“As for finding a spot in the CBD, most people around here don’t even try anymore. We’ll work with Council to fix this problem.”
“Labor has listened and we’re focused on delivering a fair go for local commuters.”
Labor’s Shadow Treasurer, Ryan park slammed Stuart Ayres and the Liberals for failing to properly plan their Penrith overdevelopment agenda.
“All the experts say that Western Sydney needs more investment in infrastructure like car parking to make our trains more accessible.”
“After eight years of neglect from Stuart Ayres and the Liberals, Western Sydney commuters have seen our train services and infrastructure fall to bits.”
“Stuart Ayres and the Liberals have been so focused on recklessly splurging $2.2 billion of taxpayer money rebuilding perfectly good Sydney stadiums, that they’ve neglected our train services and infrastructure, and failed Western Sydney commuters.”
Labor Candidate for Mulgoa, Todd Carney slammed the Liberals for failing to fix this problem earlier.
“The Local Liberals MPs have failed to address the strain on services from their government’s reckless overdevelopment agenda.”
