Federal Minister for Energy, Chris Bowen, has exposed the Victorian Labor Government’s renewable wind strategy as having collapsed, with generation targets for 2032 unlikely to be achieved.
Yesterday, Minister Bowen confirmed: “We don’t expect much offshore wind to be operating by 2030 in Australia”.
The Minister’s admission shows the Allan Government’s commitment to produce at least two gigawatts of electricity through offshore wind by 2032 is unlikely to be achieved, following the collapse of the State’s proposal to assemble offshore wind turbines in Western Port.
Instead of fixing the mess, the State Labor Minister for Energy, Lily D’Ambrosio, attacked the Federal Labor Government for not doing her job for her.
Shadow Minister for Energy, Affordability and Security, David Davis, said: “The Federal Energy Minister has confirmed that State Labor’s plan to meet their own renewable wind target is in tatters. It’s time for the State Government to come clean and admit their renewable wind policy has collapsed.”
Shadow Minister for the Environment, James Newbury, said: “With Jacinta Allan refusing to admit her renewable wind policy has imploded, the Federal Minister has been forced to admit the truth. Every Victorian will pay higher costs if Labor fails to meet their renewable targets.
“Instead of admitting failure, regrouping, and working out a pathway forward Minister D’Ambrosio has stomped her feet and blame shifted. No matter how big her tantrum is, every credible observer can see this mess is on the Minister’s watch.”
