Labor’s VCE Exam Debacle To Be Referred To Ombudsman

Liberal Party Victoria

The Victorian Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s will refer the Allan Labor Government’s latest VCE examination debacle to the Ombudsman for a comprehensive and independent investigation.

Labor’s latest exam debacle has resulted in at least 22 VCE examination papers being compromised and has left as many as 10,000 VCE students at a significant disadvantage.

This is third consecutive year under the Labor Government that the integrity of VCE assessments has been undermined, following similar blunders in and .

Last year, Minister for Education, Ben Carroll, ordered a review and pledged to leave “no stone unturned” to improve the system. This review has failed, and Labor cannot be trusted to restore integrity to the VCE examination process.

Therefore, at the first opportunity during the next Parliamentary sitting week, the Victorian Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s will move a motion to request the Victorian Ombudsman investigate how this debacle occurred, the VCAA’s culpability and response, as well as review existing VCE examination processes.

Shadow Minister for Early Childhood and Education, Jess Wilson, said: “The response by the VCAA and Minister for Education to the latest VCE examination debacle has been entirely inadequate.

“After three consecutive years of errors, blunders and compromised assessments, a comprehensive and independent investigation into the VCAA and VCE process must occur.

“The Allan Labor Government has overseen repeated failings within the VCE assessment process and cannot be trusted to stop these damaging errors from occurring again in the future.

“The Victorian Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s will move a motion in Parliament to refer the VCAA to the Ombudsman to investigate how this latest debacle occurred and what needs to be done to restore integrity to VCE assessments and ensure no student is put at a disadvantage in the future.”
