As the Allan Labor Government’s refusal to give Victoria Police members a decent pay deal drags on, new crime data will reveal just how unsafe Victoria is under Labor.
The independentCrime Statistics Agency will release data next Thursday, for the 12 months to 30 September 2024, where it is expected the number of unsolved crimes will have continued to rise because of a lack of police members available to investigate crimes. In the year ending 30 June 2024, 43 per cent of all recoded offences were unsolved, which represents an 18 per cent increase on the prior year.
Labor’s refusal to fix the police resourcing crisis is also expected to have a continued impact on crimes against the person as well as property offences. In the year ending 30 June 2024, there were:
- 6,445 residential aggravated burglaries – an 18 per cent increase on the previous 12 months
- An increase in motor vehicle thefts of 24 per cent to 23,248 –one vehicle stolen every 23 minutes in Victoria
- An increase in thefts of items from motor vehicles of 17 per cent
- An increase in retail theft of 32 per cent
Shadow Minister for Police, Brad Battin, said: “The responsibility for this surge in crime lies squarely at feet of Premier Jacinta Allan and her weak Labor Government.
“Premier Allan should be doing more to protect Victorians, who are worse off because of Labor’s continual inaction on crime in Victoria.
“These crimes are occurring because there are fewer police on the street. The Allan Labor Government is doing nothing to solve the frontline policing crisis and instead is at war with our hardworking police officers.
“Labor can’t manage community safety and Victorians are paying the price. Next week’s data release will show just how high a price that has been.”
