A Daley Labor Government will build a new public co-ed high school in the Eastern Suburbs, putting local kids and local families first.
Labor has a strong and comprehensive plan to ensure schools are prioritised over stadiums, following eight years of education neglect by the Liberal and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Berejiklian Government.
Under the Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s more kids are in demountable classrooms, the maintenance backlog has quadrupled, and too many schools are still without air conditioning. NSW has the most expensive public schools in Australia with parents being forced to pay more for sports equipment, laptops, transport and basics like toilet paper
Our kids are suffering across NSW because the Berejiklian Liberal ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Government is spending $2.2 billion of public funds rebuilding perfectly good stadiums in Sydney. They have ripped up the city for a Light Rail project that is now years behind schedule and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget.
Labor will continue working with the local community and with members of C.L.O.S.E (Community for local options for secondary education) to find a suitable location for the school.
Labor Shadow Minister for Education, Jihad Dib said:
“Labor is fighting to deliver fair funding for local schools and to deliver the resources that the community needs, instead the Liberals are recklessly splurging billions of dollars on stadiums.”
“Where is Bruce Notley-Smith while local kids and local families are being left worse off? He needs to decide who he is fighting for at this election, local families or the big end of town?”
Labor candidate for Coogee, Marjorie O’Neill said:
“Our community is getting bigger and local families are fed up with demountables, maintenance backlogs, and a lack or air conditioning in classrooms while the Liberals are blowing billions on stadiums in Sydney”
“The Berejiklian Liberal ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Government needs to know that our kids are much more important than corporate boxes at the cricket”
“Michael Daley is the only leader at this election with a plan to put local families and local kids first. Bruce Notley-Smith should join Labor’s campaign to build a new co-ed high school in our community.”
