Cyclists, walkers and runners who use the path around Lake Albert are reminded that detours will be in place along sections of the shared pathway as work continues on the upgrade project.
The Lake Albert link is part of Wagga Wagga City Council’s Active Travel Plan (ATP), which will deliver a 56-kilometre network of shared paths linking the outlying suburbs with the Central Business District, and two End of Trip facilities.
Council Project Manager Srivalli Miah said work will be carried out along the Wiradjuri walking track adjacent to Lake Albert Road between the Lakeside Drive and Eastlake Drive intersections on Monday 18 October, weather permitting.
“A pedestrian detour and traffic control will be in place for a short period of time while contractors spray between the two seals of asphalt,” Ms Miah said.
“Road users should also expect short delays, with one lane of Lake Albert Road to allow the heavy vehicles and machinery to access the path.
“We appreciate your patience and we are working as quickly as we can to minimise the disruptions.”
The upgrade, which began on 5 October, involves widening the existing path to 2.5 metres, as well as constructing new paths to link off-roads such as Nelson, Ontario and Plunkett drives to the lake.
Approximately 1.5 kilometres has already received its final seal of asphalt, while two kilometres of pathway have received its first correction layer.
The next section of works will be from the intersection of Eastlake Drive to Apex Park.
Work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, with pedestrian and traffic control measures in place.
The Lake Albert link is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
The ATP project is jointly funded by the NSW Government and Wagga Wagga City Council.
