Lake Alexander is re-open for swimming and other recreational water activities as of this afternoon, Tuesday 5 March 2024.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the results of water quality tests showed the lake met the NT and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Water Quality Guidelines, making it suitable for swimming.
“We are pleased to re-open Lake Alexander to the public,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“We will continue to monitor the water quality and will undertake regular sampling to ensure the appropriate levels required for swimming are met,” he said.
City of Darwin is committed to maintaining the highest environmental practices to protect the community and the environment.
Lake Alexander has been closed since 24 January after high bacteria levels were detected and continued to be detected during frequent water quality monitoring throughout February.
The water quality in Lake Alexander complies with the levels required under the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Recreational Microbiological Water Quality Guidelines.
