Lake Sorell Multi-Purpose Education and Training Facility now open

Guy Barnett, Minister for Veterans Affairs

The new Multi-Purpose Education and Training Facility, developed by the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia – Tasmania Branch, has opened today at Lake Sorell.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Guy Barnett, said that there is no stronger supporter of the veteran community than our Government, with today marking the delivery of another positive outcome.

“I am proud that we are part of opening this new facility, which will allow Tasmania’s veterans to not only remain connected, but supported in this beautiful landscape,” Minister Barnett said.

“This facility is now available for use for 70 ex-service organisations from around Tasmania, offering contemporary amenities for training sessions, wellbeing and wellness programs and more.

“The Vietnam Veteran Association of Australia – Tasmania Branch should be incredibly proud; their sustained advocacy has been critical to seeing this facility opened today.

“Similarly, the work undertaken by Terry Roe and local Tasmanian firm Lyden Builders to deliver this fantastic end product is highly appreciated and I thank them for their great work.

“The opening of this facility compliments the existing Veterans’ Retreat and nearby Vietnam Veterans Bush Memorial Retreat, which was constructed following a $100,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government to the Vietnam Veterans’ Association of Australia.”

An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is continuing to support our valued veteran community, by:

* providing funding for RSL Tasmania;

* continuing the Teddy Sheean VC Memorial Grants Program;

* continuing the Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize; and

* supporting our veterans’ health through our Wellbeing Voucher Program.
