Lake Tuggeranong Rowing Club upgrade has commenced

Today I joined to members of the Lake Tuggeranong Rowing Club to mark the commencement of the Club’s upgrade at Lake Tuggeranong College. These upgrades fulfil an election commitment from the ACT Government.

Works began late last month and is a collaborative effort between Sport and Recreation, the Education Directorate, Lake Tuggeranong College and Libraries ACT. This is a significant investment and it will encourage the growth of sport and more activity on the shores of Lake Tuggeranong.

I took the opportunity to inspect the works and thank all those involved in the upgrade, which will make a substantial contribution to community sports and recreation.

The works will include an upgrade to amenities like showers for the club and improved storage areas for both the club and school. The upgrade will also provide base building infrastructure improvements to ensure compliance with the Building Code and regulations.

In addition to the $200,000 election commitment, the government allocated a further $250,000 to this expanded scope bringing the total project budget to $450,000.

I am looking forward to the completion of works, estimated to be in early December 2019.

As stated by Lyndon Langdon, Lake Tuggeranong Rowing Club representative

“Lake Tuggeranong Rowing Club is a community-based club that has been operating for nearly 25 years in a facility that arose through a collaboration with Lake Tuggeranong College.

“Though, while the undercroft of the Tuggeranong library has been an adequate location from which to conduct the Rowing Club’s training programs, it has lacked primary health facilities.

“The Club members were extremely grateful with a commitment from the Government at the last election to support the growth of community sporting and recreation assets in the Tuggeranong Valley.”
