The Tasmanian Industrial Commission has approved the Tasmanian Government’s new workforce package for Child Safety, Advice and Referral and Youth Justice workers.
Financial incentives to recruit and retain staff in areas of Child Safety, Youth Justice and the Advice and Referral Line are already proving effective, with strong interest in the positions advertised during the recent recruitment campaign.
The new Child Safety and Youth Justice Incentive Industrial Agreement 2024 package was negotiated in consultation with the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) and the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU), earlier this year and provides additional incentives for the North West region where the staff need has been greatest.
Minister for Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said in addition to attracting professionals towards a career in Services for Children and Families and Youth Justice, the package was designed to retain valued existing staff.
“The Tasmanian Government values all employees who provide services to Tasmania’s children and young people,” Minister Jaensch said.
“This package targets frontline roles within these services and supports efforts to attract high quality candidates to roles where the need is the greatest”.

This package is in addition to the 15 per cent market allowance already in place for specified roles in the North West.
In August the Tasmanian Government launched the ‘Make a Difference’ nation-wide recruitment campaign which was supported by the new financial incentives.
The campaign attracted excellent numbers of suitable applicants, interviews have been completed, and offers of employment are being made.
