The Tasmanian Liberal Government has welcomed the return of QantasLink’s larger Q400 aircraft to Devonport Airport, underscoring its commitment to regional connectivity, tourism, and business growth.
The upgraded service is expected to deliver significant benefits to Northern Tasmania by enhancing travel options for locals and visitors alike.
Minister for Infrastructure, Kerry Vincent, praised the reintroduction of the Q400, highlighting its alignment with the Government’s strategic vision for regional development.
“The return of the Q400 aircraft to Devonport is a win for our community and a clear demonstration of QantasLink’s commitment to supporting Tasmania’s regional hubs,” Minister Vincent said.
“This service will provide greater capacity and improved reliability, making it easier for Tasmanians to connect with Melbourne and beyond while also attracting more visitors to experience the incredible North West region.”
The Q400 offers 74 seats per flight, replacing the smaller Q300 on key services, and is expected to add the equivalent of 18,000 more seats annually between Devonport and Melbourne.
Minister Vincent said the Tasmanian Liberal Government is fostering economic growth in regional areas through infrastructure investment and strategic partnerships as part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
“We know how vital regional airports like Devonport are to the success of our tourism industry, local businesses, and communities,” Minister Vincent said.
“This milestone demonstrates what can be achieved when government, industry, and local stakeholders work together to enhance regional connectivity and create new opportunities for growth.”
