Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has allocated $238,359 from the Tallaganda Shire Council Section 94 Contributions Plan No. 3 Roadworks Reserve to support the Lascelles Street Upgrade.
This will supplement funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program to complete this project.
‘We know the Braidwood community is keen to see Lascelles Street upgraded,’ Mayor Kenrick Winchester said.
‘The additional funds from these Council reserves enables us to complete the whole project, instead of reducing the scope of the works.
‘The funds will support stormwater works at the intersection of Lascelles Street and Wallace Street and manage stormwater from the Kings Highway, as well as footpath work on Lascelles Street.
‘This allocation of funds will not affect any current or planned projects funded from this reserve.’
The upgrade has been identified in Council’s Operational Plan 2022-23 and will provide much needed improvements to the safety and amenity of the street.
Works will include the rehabilitation of the existing pavement, replacement of kerbs and gutters, reconstruction of footpaths, new drainage and formalised car parking.
The water main on Lascelles Street between Ryrie Street and Wallace Street was replaced in September 2021 in preparation for the road upgrade.
The construction tender was awarded to Shail Construction on 25 May 2022, however commencement to construction has been delayed due to weather and supply issues with required stormwater piping.
Affected residents and businesses will be contacted when a start date is confirmed with the contractor in the next two weeks.
