The McGowan Government is encouraging local businesses and organisations looking to boost their defence against the increasing threat of cyberattacks to get their tickets for the CyberWest Summit 2023.

Kicking off on 10 May, the two-day cybersecurity conference for non-IT professionals features an extensive program of presentations and workshops led by a diverse range of almost 50 global and local experts.

Innovation and the Digital Economy Minister Stephen Dawson will open the summit, which will feature presentations from The White House’s Deputy ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Cyber Director for Technology and Ecosystem Security, Camille Stewart Gloster esq, the United States Navy’s former Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, Terry Roberts, and the Chief Scientist of Western Australia, Professor Peter Klinken AC.

The CyberWest Summit 2023 has been designed for non-cyber executives, business owners and individuals to gain much-needed expert advice on managing cybersecurity threats.

According to the Australian Cyber Security Centre, the number of reported cyberattacks on Australian businesses and individuals rose by 13 per cent in the 2021-22 financial year.

On average, the cyberattacks cost small businesses $39,000 and medium businesses $88,000, up by 14 per cent compared to the previous year.

CyberWest is a collaboration between the McGowan Government, Edith Cowan University and the City of Joondalup to build State-wide capability in cybersecurity, create employment and diversify the economy.

As stated by Innovation and the Digital Economy Minister Stephen Dawson:

“I encourage any business or organisation in WA looking to improve their cybersecurity to attend this year’s CyberWest Summit.

“As we have seen regularly in the news, no matter the size of your business or organisation, you could be a target and, in many cases, may not even be aware that you’ve been hacked and your data or operations compromised.

“The CyberWest Summit 2023 is an excellent opportunity to learn what needs to be done to protect your business or organisation and mitigate cybersecurity risks.”
