Latrobe Welcomes Investment in Energy from Waste Facility

Latrobe City Council welcomes the Federal Government’s commitment of $48.2 million to the Energy from Waste Facility at the Maryvale Mill through the Modern Manufacturing Initiative.

Stage One of the $500 million Energy from Waste facility is expected to reduce Victoria’s net CO2 emissions by an estimated 270,000 tonnes annually.

This new technology will create energy from the controlled combustion of non-hazardous waste materials that would otherwise go to landfill.

The project will support Maryvale’s 850 local jobs and create a further 500 jobs through the three-year construction and 455 ongoing jobs on completion.

The Federal Government’s investment in local industries throughout Latrobe City boosts the local economy and secures the financial futures of local residents.

Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan welcomed the Federal Government’s investment in Latrobe City and its Strength Led Transition.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank the Federal Government for their investment in the Energy from Waste Facility at the Maryvale Mill.

“These types of commitments create lasting positive change for our community. Latrobe City Council has a commitment to driving economic transformation for the long-term. This announcement is welcome news to complement our work,” said Cr. O’Callaghan.
