A delegation that included Ambassador to Latvia in Japan Zigmārs Zilgalvis, Riga Technical University (RTU) Rector Talis Juhna, and RTU Vice-Rector for Innovations Liene Briede visited Tokyo Tech on April 24.
The group were welcomed on Ookayama Campus by Tokyo Tech President Kazuya Masu, Vice President for Institute Strategy and Provost Isao Satoh, School of Engineering Professor Nobuhiko Nishiyama, and Senior Aide to the Executive Vice President for Institute Strategy Noriko Ito.
RTU, a national university located in Latvia’s capital city of Riga, is the oldest technical university in the Baltic states. Until recently, exchanges between RTU and Tokyo Tech had been very limited. However, as Juhna and Masu shared introductions of their respective institutions, the parallels between the two leading technical universities soon became apparent.
The courtesy call by Ambassador Zilgalvis and RTU representatives came approximately 10 days after a group of RTU researchers visited the Nishiyama Lab to explore exchanges between members of the Riga institution and Tokyo Tech. This meeting included discussions regarding the potential expansion of collaboration through joint research and guidance of doctoral students.
