The swimming pool is popular with community members from Laverton as well as in the surrounding Leonora and the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. The new centre will also attract travellers along the Outback Way road network to extend their stay in the area.

The new aquatic centre includes a beach entry, swimming lanes and a variety of water features to keep local children active.

Premier Mark McGowan and Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan today officially opened the new aquatic centre.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“The new Laverton Aquatic Centre provides a vital recreational facility for the Northern Goldfields community and is ready in time for upcoming school holidays and the onset of warm weather.

“The design of the swimming pool ensures the facility is safe and accessible to all, young and old.

“In the height of summer, temperatures in Laverton are extreme, making the need for good aquatic facilities even more essential. It will be a central hub for the community and will provide the perfect location for community celebrations and events.”

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The Laverton Aquatic Centre has always been important to the people living in and around Laverton and visitors to the town.

“Investing in new and modern facilities in our regions is vital to bring social and economic benefits, and making Laverton a better place to live.”

As stated by Mining and Pastoral Region MLC Kyle McGinn:

“Laverton has fought hard to build up the liveability of their town and I believe this project goes a long way to really giving Laverton another edge and another reason to stay.

“Having the centre and the pool available is a great achievement from the Shire for everyone in the area but most of all the children of Laverton. This will be a central place for kids to enjoy themselves, socialise and a have a safe place to hang out. It is great to see this project delivered.”
