This week in Parliament our Government will be focused on getting on with government business.
We will be introducing nation leading reforms to extend the list of presumptive cancers for firefighters to include nine additional types of cancers, including female-specific cancers such as cervical and ovarian cancer.
We will also bring forward for debate important legislation, including to improve the rights of people affected by crime and their loved ones which will ensure that victims of crime applicants are no worse off by any change to their entitlements under the award structure.
Our Government is focused on our long-term plan and what matters to all Tasmanians.
We also have important reforms currently out for consultation. These are:
- the Retirement Villages Amendment Bill 2023 which will further regulate the circumstances in which retirement village operators can increase charges and impose levies;
- the Racing Regulation Integrity Bill 2023 which will strengthen governance, animal welfare matters and integrity across all three codes of racing in the State; and
- the Expungement of Historical Offences Amendment Bill 2023, that aims to expand the expungement scheme introduced through the Expungement of Historical offences Act 2017 which established a scheme to expunge historical charges and convictions relating to certain homosexual and cross-dressing offences.
Unfortunately, I expect we will see another week of our political opponents seeking to misuse the Parliament with stunts and political games that prevent us from debating important Bills on which Tasmanians deserve certainty, and a Parliament focused on what matters.
