Legendary Sir Leo headlines free AgForce ‘Climate for Change’ forum

With Queensland experiencing unprecedented drought, floods and fires this year, agriculture is bearing the brunt of an increasingly unpredictable and volatile climate.

Producers can find out how to begin preparing their agribusiness for operating in a changing climate at a free AgForce workshop in Dalby on Friday 22 November.

Public sector finance stalwart Sir Leo Hielscher, Foundation Chairman of Queensland Treasury Corporation and co-creator of the LNP’s New Bradfield Scheme announced recently, will keynote the event.

AgForce South-East Queensland President Caro Harris encouraged producers to invest an afternoon in their farming future.

“The ‘A Climate for Change’ Forum will be hosted by radio personality Craig Zonca and feature a range of expert speakers on the latest innovations in agriculture,” Mrs Harris said.

“Sir Leo will provide insights in the economic, financial and social importance of water security and provide an inside look at the New Bradfield Scheme.

“Sir Leo is a stalwart and is one of the key figures responsible for transforming Queensland’s economy, government funding model and approach to delivering public infrastructure as Under-Treasurer in the 1980s and later as inaugural chairman of QTC.

Tim Neale, of agritech company Data Farming, will discuss new agronomy tools and techniques and Damien O’Sullivan, an expert from the Northern Australia Climate Program, will talk about new technologies available to assist climate-based decision-making.

Chair of the Future Drought Fund Consultative Committee, Brent Finlay, will describe how the Fund is being developed to maximise the benefit it offers to primary producers

From an AgForce perspective, SEQ Council member, lawyer Tom Marland, will speak about the hot topic of Farming, Forestry and Fire and General; President, Georgie Somerset will provide an update on the ‘Stand up For Regional Queensland’ Campaign.

The free forum will be held from 3.30pm to 5.00pm at the Dalby Events Centre, Nicholson Street following the annual regional update for Southeast Queensland AgForce members.

It will be followed by complimentary drinks and dinner.
