Leith residents duped by Rockliff on overpass promise

  • Minister Rockliff fails to commit to Leigh overpass project
  • No mention of Leith overpass in the budget
  • Residents deceived by the Minister
  • Residents at Leith have been duped by the Hodgman Liberal Government over the promised construction of a $10 million overpass on the Bass Highway.

Today in Budget Estimates, Infrastructure Minister Jeremy Rockliff refused to commit to delivering the Leith overpass, despite the project being a pre-election commitment.

Labor Member for Braddon, Shane Broad, said the Hodgman Liberal Government had betrayed Leith residents.

“The Government promised to build this $10 million overpass to address safety concerns at the Leith intersections on the Bass Highway after years of lobbying by residents,” Dr Broad said.

“There was no mention of this project in the budget and today the Minister Jeremy Rockliff refused to commit to delivering on his promise.”

“This is just another example of the Government failing to deliver on its commitments to regional Tasmania.”
