Women and girls in the state’s North West will now have greater opportunities to participate in sport with the completion of the Ulverstone Recreation Ground redevelopment.
The Tasmanian Government contributed $471,200 to the project through our $10 million Levelling the Playing Field Program, which is ensuring girls and women have access to the sporting facilities they need to encourage participation.
The redevelopment will provide upgraded change rooms and associated amenities to cater to all players, ancillary staff and other site users, providing modern facilities that meet AFL Facilities Guidelines standards for female and male home and visiting teams, as well as upgraded facilities for male and female umpires.
It will also provide a significant upgrade of the facilities used for non-AFL community groups, including youth sports and local schools’ events.
It’s a great result for the local community and is another positive step in our commitment to remove barriers to female participation in sport right across the state.
We will continue doing all we can to encourage greater participation in sport across Tasmania, with grants now open for the $10 million Improving the Playing Field Fund that will provide grants to local councils, sporting clubs and associations to improve playing facilities across Tasmania.
