Concerns raised about ageing infrastructure and disability access at Montello Primary School continue to be ignored four years after they were first raised.
Parent Natalie Bugg’s eight-year-old son, Lucas, has specific sensory needs, which were raised with the government before he began attending the school.
While the school has done its best to accommodate his needs, the government has failed to upgrade existing infrastructure that allows wheelchair-bound Natalie to quickly get to her son.
Montello Primary School’s ageing infrastructure was first raised with Premier Jeremy Rockliff in 2019 when he was Education Minister.
Rather than allocating funding at the 2019-2020 state budget, the school was overlooked despite being on the priority one waiting list.
Instead, the Government announced a $7.1 million election commitment at the last state election.
Almost two years on, the school community is still waiting for these urgent upgrades.
This government has got its priorities all wrong.
A Labor Government would prioritise investment in our schools.
Instead of focusing on building a billion dollar stadium in Hobart, the Premier should be focused on building a better Montello Primary School as he promised at the last State Election.
