Liberal Government says “thanks” to social workers on World Social Work Day today

Today on World Social Work Day the Liberal Government extends its sincere thanks to social workers across South Australia for their ongoing hard work and dedication.

World Social Work Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of social workers, as well as raise awareness of their contribution to the community.

The Department for Child Protection employs more than 650 staff in social work services across South Australia. Of those, 85 per cent are female.

Minister for Child Protection Rachel Sanderson thanked social workers across the Department – and across Government – for their hard work.

“On behalf of the Liberal Government, I’d like to thank each and every social worker across South Australia for their ongoing dedication in looking after our most vulnerable people,” said Minister Sanderson.

“There is no doubt social work can be incredibly rewarding but the work can be demanding and challenging at times.

“Within the Department of Child Protection, social workers undertake a range of jobs including working with families and children to deliver intervention, investigations and also promote positive outcomes.

“Social workers provide invaluable help in assisting families who are unable to effectively and safely care for their children to work towards a safe return to their care.

“Employing staff who are able to support and care for our most vulnerable young people goes a long way in achieving better outcomes for our children.”
