Liberal Government says thanks to South Australian volunteers supporting their community

Organisations are encouraged to nominate high-achieving helpers for a 2019 Premier’s Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service, with applications now open.

The recognition program assists volunteer-involving organisations and community groups to recognise excellence and significant achievements of their volunteers.

Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said recognising the work of our state’s helping hands is vital, as volunteers generate great community spirit, while also helping to make our neighbourhoods as safe and inclusive as possible.

“Volunteering is a selfless act that often goes without thanks, but we want to make sure our volunteers know that their efforts are noticed,” said Minister Lensink.

“The Premier’s Certificate of Recognition acknowledges accomplishments, reinforces shared goals and is a sign of our appreciation.

“Last year, 138 certificates were distributed, and we’d love to see even more of SA’s many thousands of volunteers recognised in 2019.”

Minister Lensink said selection for the certificates is based on volunteers meeting one or more of the following criteria:

• Made significant contribution to the community and/or organisation Provided ongoing commitment and dedication to volunteering

• Demonstrated leadership in their volunteer role

• Promoted volunteerism within the community

“I urge organisations and community groups to submit their nominations on the Office for Volunteers website by 29 March,” said Minister Lensink.

Zoos SA Acting Chief Executive Sarah Brown said Zoos SA heavily relied on dedicated volunteers.

“As a conservation charity, our volunteers play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission to connect people with nature and save species from extinction,” said Ms Brown.

“We have more than 400 people who generously donate their time, energy and expertise to make a meaningful difference and help deliver our conservation message.

“Our volunteers are an integral part of our zoo community and we are incredibly grateful for their commitment, passion and contributions.”

Certificates will be distributed to volunteer organisations in early May for presentation during ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Volunteer Week, which runs from 20 to 26 May.
