The Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing to listen to Tasmanians and deliver the things they care about, in partnership with our Federal colleagues.
This week we have taken important actions to secure Tasmanian jobs, invest in essential health services, keep Tasmanians safe, and deliver essential community services and infrastructure.
We have:
- Boosted our ambulance services in Sorell with the recruitment of an additional four paramedics, delivering a career station with fully qualified paramedic crews on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
- Secured the future of around 600 local jobs through our $20 million commitment to Nyrstar, which when combined with the Federal Government’s $50 million commitment will allow an expansion of the Nyrstar facility in the state’s south;
- Matched the Federal Government’s $70 million commitment to help make Bell Bay a national green hydrogen hub, with jobs and investment to flow as a result;
- Provided $15.1 million over two years to pilot Multidisciplinary Centres in the North and South of the State that offer immediate, wrap around support and safety services to adult and child victim-survivors;
- Bolstered police numbers with 40 new recruits commencing their training this week, as part of the our plan to keep Tasmanians safe;
- Announced the development of overtaking lanes and other improvements on the Tasman Highway east of Scottsdale as part of a $4 million package of road upgrades;
- Taken another important step forward to live with COVID-19, with Tasmanians classed as close contacts no longer needing to quarantine for 7 days from 12.01am Monday, provided they comply with other Public Health measures;
- Led the nation in the latest Commsec report, for the ninth quarter in a row;
- Opened stage one of the upgrades at Devonport’s Valley Road, with the facility on track to host potential World Cup basecamps and future A-League matches.
- Announced we will provide a $150,000 contribution towards the workers’ memorial garden project in Launceston in the upcoming State Budget; and
- Provided $600,000 for the Trees on Farms grants which is managed by Private Forests Tasmania, with assistance from the Australian Government;
It was also good to see crowds returning to ANZAC Day services on Monday after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, with many Tasmanians taking the opportunity to attend their local service and say thank you.
With Parliament returning next week, our Liberal team will continue delivering for all Tasmanians as we progress our strong legislative agenda and invest in the things Tasmanians care about.
