Swan Hill Regional Library is pleased to announce the launch of a new trial initiative aimed at providing a supportive environment for children with sensory integration challenges.

Libraries Manager, Camille Cullinan said a Quiet and Calm Storytime would commence as a six-week trial program from July 31 and run until September 4, 2024.

Quiet and Calm Storytime is designed to gently engage all the senses through carefully curated activities including songs, movement, stories, and play.

“This program is open to all children aged 2-5 years but is specifically tailored to meet the needs of children who may find it challenging to participate in traditional Storytime sessions.” Ms Cullinan said.

Ms Cullinan said Library staff understand that every child is unique, and some may require a quieter and more calming environment to fully enjoy our Storytime activities.

“Quiet and Calm Storytime provides a nurturing space where children can participate at their own pace, enhancing their sensory experience through engaging activities.” she said.

Sessions will be held weekly on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3pm at Swan Hill Regional Library.

To ensure a supportive atmosphere, each session will be limited to 10 children.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to book their child’s place in advance, due to limited availability.

“If your child has difficulty sitting through our other Storytime programs, Quiet and Calm Storytime may be just what you are looking for.” added Ms Cullinan.
